The Disk Drive Is Not Formatted

Last night, I tried to format an extra Hard Disk after I deleted all the files in it so i could use it to saved other files I have in my computer. Several days ago, it was in good condition but lately, it kind of giving me a headache whenever I tried to copy large files to my PC. It is not partitioned. Copying those files would not take completely. By patiently doing, I was able to transfer those files but when I attempted to format it, cannot completed.

What's really going on with my HDD? Its a 40 GB Samsung IDE PATA. Now, I'm thinking what could possibly be the reason behind. Does it have a virus, a bad sector or it simply dying out? I had to find why. I doubt if I'm going to format it normally like installing windows for the first time could really be a big help but if it had a bad sectors, could only lead to waste of time. It should be regenerated, however it will take too much time depending on the hard disk capacity if I do hard disk regeneration.

Format Hard Disk As Slave

I set the pin to slave and attached the IDE Cable, power on the CPU. The computer recognized the drive as slave. I attempted to format it this way where I thought it could help. I did it once then it failed. It will proceed but as it reaches to 100 % it failed. I thought it's getting hot so I stopped for a while so it will cool down. Then after several hours I tried again but still unlucky.

Format Hard Disk as Removable Disk

After trying few times to format HDD as slave, I thought to try other alternative. I guess doing it the other way could really help. I got an external enclosure and decided to attached the HDD in order to format it. It started, but still after reaching to almost a 100%, the same thing happened.

Format Hard Disk Using Disk Management in Windows

Finally, by reading some articles regarding formatting I was able to get a better idea which solved the problem.

This is by the use of disk management alone. To used this option, just go by exploring my computer then right click on the icon and click manage. In there, look for Disk Management. Simply click on the drive you want to format as seen on the image then delete the said partition. Once deleted, create a new partition and MBR. You can either set it to a primary (up to 3 primary partition allowed) or extended partition. If formatting the drive as primary won't work, then try the extended partition option. Once through with it, format the drive, wait till it prompts you that it's healthy again.

Day by day, there will always be new set of learning. I'm glad to have the time to learn something of great benefit. Just wanna share it with you.
